Where to Store Your Safe for Maximum Security
When deciding where to put your safe, your instinct might be to keep it completely hidden from view – after all, if burglars can’t find your safe, they certainly won’t be able to break into it. However, hiding your safe away too much might cause you to stop using it properly, as it’s too much trouble to access it all the time.
So, while it is a good idea to keep your safe as hidden as possible, it should also be accessible to you – this way, you’ll be much more inclined to use it as intended. Here are some different places you could store your safe to maximise both the security it provides and how accessible it is to you.
Fixed to a concrete wall
One good place to store a safe is on a shelf or piece of furniture where it can be fixed to a concrete wall behind it. If you choose this location for your safe, it’ll be easily accessible to you whilst also being very difficult to steal, as it’ll be secured to a strong wall.
You could also secure your safe to a wall and store it inside a piece of furniture, rather than on top of it. Fixing the safe to the wall through a hole in the back of the furniture will ensure it’s difficult to steal, while the furniture’s doors will keep it hidden from view and therefore harder to find.
Hidden in a wall
If you have a wall safe and a thick enough wall, you can embed your safe within that wall. It’s worth noting that the installation isn’t easy and so you will likely need the help of a professional, which will come at an extra cost. However, hiding your safe in a wall is a great option when it comes to security – it’s easy to hide and difficult to remove, while still being easy to access.
Anchored to the floor
If you have a large safe and/or your walls are not made of concrete, you can choose to anchor it to the floor so that it is properly secured but still easy to access. Note that you will need to bend down in order to use it, however, so this may not be a suitable option for everyone.
Hidden in the floor
For those with a small safe and concrete or cement flooring, it may be possible to install the safe within the floor. Like with a hidden wall safe, this requires a little more expertise when it comes to installation. However, it does provide an excellent hiding spot for your safe and will be almost impossible to steal.
It is worth noting that floor safes can be more susceptible to dust or water getting into it and damaging the lock, so it shouldn’t be your first port of call.
